Project: Building the Qatar National Library, travertine
Challenge: Complete control on the aesthetics of tiles, before installation in Qatar.
Approach: We rented aircraft hangars around our stone warehouse for the 5500m² we needed to dry lay it out in full. Whereas usually 10% of tiles are laid out like this, the full 12, 000 slabs of travertine were put down and individually checked by architects OMA to make sure they had prime position in the project. Then they were labelled, shipped and reassembled tile by tile in Qatar.
