Quartzite supplier

Quartzite is an increasingly popular type of natural stone. This hard and marble-like rock is often used for indoor uses such as countertops and bathrooms. But, why is it that this stone is in such high demand, and what is there to know about it?

Quartzite is a dense, durable natural stone made up of quartz minerals. Originating from sandstone, pure pieces of the rock tend to be white or grey-ish (as the sand itself), though additional minerals often give it a different colour, such as green or blue. As a global supplier of quartzite, SolidNature is able to find the best slabs and accurately transform this exceptionally dense stone into innovative designs.

Learn all there is to know about quartzite and find the answers to common causes for confusion, such as its similarity to marble and quartz. Quartzite, durable and beautiful

TQuartzite is formed from pure quartz sandstone, which under extreme heat and pressure is recrystallized through metamorphism into an entirely different stone. Slabs of quartzite are as luxurious as marble, only significantly more robust, and demand less maintenance than granite.

Additionally, the stone is resistant to chemical weathering and etching. Its toughness and durability were already recognized in prehistoric times when it was a popular material for making tools. Moreover, stains or scratches do not affect its particularly resilient surface.

It is no wonder then that quartzite is experiencing a surge in popularity in interior decoration. Quartzite tiles and countertops, for example, give you the rock-hard qualities and pure beauty you look for in natural stone while demanding nearly no maintenance. But anything is possible with this wonderful material, so please, do not hold back on your dreams and ambitions in your quartzite designs.

Quartzite vs quartz

The name quartzite can be confusing. You might think that it is the same as quartz, but that is not the case! Quartzite is a natural stone consisting of at least 80 percent of quartz (in reality, often between 90 and 99 percent).

Quartz, on the other hand, is man-made. It is developed by combining natural quartz crystals with artificial elements such as resins and pigments to create the desired colour, structure and patterns. So whereas quartzite slabs are mined from a quarry as a whole, quartz slabs are assembled by hand in a factory out of many small pieces of natural stone.

Quartz can be exceptionally durable thanks to the artificial additives in its production process, owing to its popularity as countertops and other indoor elements, but it lacks the character and unique charm of natural stone. In contrast, quartzite gives your interior a naturally acquired strength and beauty that is hard to match.

Quartzite vs marble

Because of its elegant looks, quartzite is often compared to marble, another highly popular natural stone. Indeed, when it comes to their appearance they can be very similar, but the two are very different in other ways.

Quartzite is a hard stone, as opposed to marble, which is a relatively soft stone. On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, which ranks natural stones on a scale of 1 to 10, marble comes in at 3, while quartz (quartzite’s main component) ranks much higher at 7.

Since it is denser, quartzite is more resistant to scratches and impact than marble. The latter is more susceptible to stains because it is generally more porous. Furthermore, the calcite minerals in marble are vulnerable to acid, which can quite easily leave dull marks on the stone, known as etches. Quartzite is far less prone to etching, making it ideal in kitchens and bathrooms.

Quartzite vs granite

In terms of durability and maintenance, quartzite and granite are quite similar. However, quartzite is slightly harder and more durable than granite (6 on the Mohs scale of hardness). Nevertheless, both types of stone are easy to maintain, requiring only warm water and soap to clean the surface.

Quartzite and granite have a similarly high resistance to heat and moisture, although quartzite can be more porous and requires re-sealing.

Thus, there are not a lot of differences between the two and both are a great choice if you’re looking for a more durable type of natural stone. The key difference lies in their appearance, as quartzite offers a larger colour variety and has the same beautiful veins like marble, while granite lacks that level of luxury.
