Swivel, a collaboration by SolidNature and designer Sabine Marcelis, is a celebration of materiality and movement, combining unexpected hues and patterns of natural stones. First unveiled at the London Design Festival in 2022 and later highlighted at the Parisian design salon MATTER and SHAPE, the natural stone brand’s long time collaboration with Sabine Marcelis continues, by introducing a complementary table to the family of rotating Swivel chairs.
In the Swivel collection, Marcelis explores a diverse selection of natural stones from SolidNature’s extensive collection, including Stormy Glacier Marble, Orchidea Marble, Sunflower Onyx, and Kamilia Rose Marble. The designs feature a solid stone base with two layers, creating diverse patterns and colours that give a sense of timeless elegance. With rotating layers, the chairs and tables create ever-changing angles, providing dynamic perspectives that captivate the eye. The Swivel Table offers a unique viewpoint with its off-centre rotation, adding an element of intrigue to any space. Versatile for indoor and outdoor use, both pieces redefine design innovation.
All chairs and tables will be manufactured in the Netherlands and will find their way into personal spaces, as the designs are for the first time available for consumers. Each piece is unique, as it is crafted from custom-picked stone combinations. Interested customers can choose their preferred stones from our collection, and Studio Sabine Marcelis will then create a one-of-a-kind design tailored to their specifications.
Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer who runs her practice from the harbour of Rotterdam. After graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 2011, Marcelis began working as an independent designer within the fields of product, installation and spatial design with a strong focus on materiality. Her work is characterised by pure forms which highlight material properties.
What began as a site-specific installation for Saint Giles square in London is now available for purchase through SolidNature, enabling it to live on in other contexts. Collaborations and long-term relationships are always important to me. It’s wonderful to continue building on my long standing relationship with SolidNature and to present this project at MATTER and SHAPE, curated by Dan Thawley, with whom I also have a longstanding relationship. It makes perfect sense.
With the addition of Swivel to our permanent collection of purchasable pieces, we aim to share our unique perspective and collaborations with prominent designers with collectors all over the world.
